It doesn’t get any bigger than this for these two NFC East Division rivals. In order to win the division and advance to the playoffs, each team needs a win in this game. Both have somewhat pedestrian records of 7-7, but are tied at the top of their division standings. The Cowboys can clinch the division with a win, based on their Week 7 win over the Eagles by a 37-10 score. For that reason, Philadelphia will need a win in this game, as well as a Week 17 victory on the road against the New York Giants, to win the NFC East.
The Eagles will have the home field advantage, but so far are just 4-3 at Lincoln Financial Field. Winners of their last two games, the Eagles are hoping to salvage a season that has been an up and down roller coaster. Twice they dropped consecutive games, and lost three straight games in mid to late November. The same can be said for the Cowboys, who twice have lost three straight games. Both teams bounced back last week, to set up this game which will give redemption to one of them.
Both quarterbacks are capable of having big games. The Cowboys Dak Prescott has passed for over 300 yards six times on the season, with three of those being over the 400 yard mark. On the other side, the Eagles Carson Wentz is possibly the team’s top offensive threat.
How big will the running game be?
There is no question that the best running back on the field will be wearing a Cowboy uniform. Ezekiel Elliott is a difference maker and is coming off a game where he rushed for 117 yards and 2 touchdowns. In addition, running mate Tony Pollard chipped in with 131 yards of his own. The Eagles have been getting good production from Mile Sanders and he could be the x-factor in the Philadelphia ground game. Whoever does better in the running game may just be the one that comes out on top and something to factor in when making your NFL pick.
Will the weather be a factor?
It doesn’t appear it will, however, remember that this is late December in the city of Philadelphia. The current forecast calls for a temperature of around 40 degrees with clear skies.
Dallas Cowboys vs. Philadelphia Eagles NFL Pick and Prediction
It’s the Cowboys who are listed as a 2.5 point favorite to clinch the NFC East Division in a road contest. However, nobody really knows which Dallas team we will see. Will it be the team that steamrolled the Los Angeles Rams, 44-21 just last week, or the team that looked disinterested with losses the previous three weeks? This will come down to whether the Eagles defense slows down the Cowboys running game. Philadelphia has the 3rd best rushing defense which gives them a chance. But we see talent winning out with a tight Cowboy win. The over/under is probably a pick-em with the total set at 46 points.
