This game has the largest spread of any XFL game in Week 3, and with good reason. Follow our preview of the game with XFL pick and prediction. Anyone who watched the Guardians play last week knows they have their problems. The question is how quickly can they get things figured out, especially on offense. In this Week 3 XFL matchup, the Guardians will travel to St. Louis to play the BattleHawks. The game is scheduled for Sunday, February 23rd at 3 PM ET and will be played at The Dome of America’s Center and can be seen on ESPN.
St. Louis is listed as a 9.5 point favorite with the total at 40.5 points. After a Week 1 win over the Tampa Bay Vipers, New York looked lost offensively against the DC Defenders in a 27-0 loss. Quarterback Matt McGloin routinely missed receivers and was visibly frustrated on the sidelines and with XFL interviewers. He was later replaced by Head Coach Kevin Gilbride.
The BattleHawks scored 24 points but still lost in their Week 2 game against the Houston Roughnecks. St. Louis is also 1-1 entering this game and they rely heavily on Quarterback Jordan Ta’amu to move the offense. He was 30 for 37 on passing attempts for 284 yards and 3 touchdowns. However, he did throw 2 interceptions.
Will McGloin be back under center this week?
That remains to be seen but chances are he’ll get at least one more week to see if he can turn things around. But if he falters early, Guardian fans might see either Luis Perez or Marquise Williams give it a go.
Other than Ta’amu, who else should fans watch for St. Louis?
With the numbers Ta’amu has been putting up, he will definitely be a factor in the game and someone that New York will need to defend. But don’t forget about running back Matt Jones. He has been getting the ball regularly with 37 carries in just the first two games, and his 129 yards rushing currently leads the XFL.
New York Guardians vs. St. Louis Battlehawks XFL Pick and Prediction
In this game it’s safe to say that the BattleHawks will put some points on the board. The Guardians defense gave up 27 points last week to DC, and St. Louis should be motivated to have a good performance on their home field. But New York should also be motivated to atone for last week’s poor offensive showing. Chances are there were some closed door meetings and airing of grievances after last week’s embarrassing performance.
I think New York will find a way to put some points on the board against a defense that gave up 28 points in Week 2, but probably not that many. The BattleHawks are playing well offensively and I see them covering the large spread this week. The XFL pick here is a score somewhere around 27-10 in favor of St. Louis, which would make the under total also attractive.
