The San Francisco 49ers wrap up the regular season on Sunday night with a road game in Seattle that will decide the winner of the NFC West division, and we have an NFL pick and preview of the game. The Seahawks were responsible for the 49ers’ first loss of the season, a Week 10 setback in overtime, 27-24, that defied the NFL pick. While some may have expected the 49ers to stumble after experiencing the loss, they recovered and now sit at 12-3 entering the final week, defying the NFL prediction most made for them.
The Seahawks, now 11-4, will win the division with a victory and could secure home-field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs with a win and losses by the Packers and Saints. The Seahawks have been surprisingly mediocre at home this season at just 4-3 straight up.
The Seahawks will be without star running back Chris Carson for the rest of the season after he suffered a hip injury last week. Carson was instrumental in the Week 10 matchup, rushing for 89 yards and a touchdown along with three receptions out of the backfield. Seattle has signed Marshawn Lynch to take over rushing duties after they also lost C.J. Prosise to a broken arm.
San Francisco is a three-point favorite in this game, with the over/under set at 47.
Digging For Gold In Seattle
The 49ers are an impressive 6-1 on the road straight up and 5-2 against the spread. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has also been impressive on the road this season, logging fewer interceptions with a higher rating than at home. He is also averaging more yards per attempt on the road by about half a yard.
Running back Raheem Mostert has also emerged as a legitimate weapon in recent weeks, seeing his snap count rise to around 50 percent the last four weeks. He only played 22 percent of the snaps in the Week 10 matchup.
Flying High Into The Playoffs
Behind an MVP-type season from quarterback Russell Wilson, the Seahawks are 11-4 on the season straight up but just 7-7-1 against the spread and a pedestrian 4-3 SU at home.
The Seahawks have also gone over in eight of their 15 games this season but have been under in three of their last five games. They are also 0-2-1 against the spread in the last three weeks.
San Francisco 49ers vs. Seattle Seahawks NFL Pick and Prediction
The first thing that sticks out is the total of 47. The 49ers’ defense gets a lot of publicity, but they have surrendered 106 points in their last three games. While Carson’s absence will certainly have an impact on the effectiveness of the Seahawks offense, Seattle still boasts quality weapons and an MVP-level quarterback.
Seattle’s defense has been an issue at home this season, ranking 27th in the league in points surrendered at home, while San Francisco is one of the best road scoring teams in the NFL. Seattle has not played well the last few weeks and not been great at home all season. Look for the Niners to win by a touchdown and play the over.
