Seattle Dragons vs. Dc Defenders XFL Pick, Prediction & Preview

Seattle Dragons vs. Dc Defenders XFL Pick Prediction Preview

The XFL is back and so are we with our XFL pick and predictions. After an initial season way back in 2001 that saw the league fold it’s tent after just one season, the XFL will try it again. Partners in the initial XFL totalled $35 million in losses with a product that was supposed to be a legitimate competitor to the NFL but ended up failing. However, this time there is hope they can grab the public’s interest with some better football when their season kicks off on February 8th, 2020, the week following the 2020 Super Bowl.

In the first game of the 2020 XFL season, the Seattle Dragons visit the DC Defenders at 2pm ET on Saturday, February 8th. Although it may be hard to handicap these early games, there are odds available that list which teams are most likely to win the 2020 Championship.

Unfortunately for the Dragons, they have the longest early odds of any of the eight teams competing. Seattle is tied with the St. Louis Battle Hawks with a +1000 betting odd to win it all. But since they have yet to take the field for a game, things can change quickly. Seattle has former NFL quarterback Jim Zorn as their head coach and longtime College and NFL coach Mike Riley as the team’s offensive coordinator. That duo should get the offense rolling early.

The DC Defenders start off with odds of +800 to win the league title. They are led by Head Coach Pep Hamilton. He has served as a quarterbacks coach or offensive coordinators for a variety of college and NFL teams, most recently under Jim Harbaugh at the University of Michigan. The Defenders appear to have some strong weapons on offense with Quarterbacks Cardale Jones and Tyree Jackson as well as receivers Justin Thomas, Tre McBride and Rashard Davis.

Which team has the most star power?

In addition to Jones, the Defenders have running back Donnell Pumphrey and defensive backs Rahim Moore and Matt Elam as former NFL players. For Seattle, some of their top players may have come from the AAF or even the Arena league. But they do have ex-NFLers Sterling Moore, Steve Williams and Jace Amaro on their roster.

What can we expect in Game 1?

Hard to say, but with the new rules and a short 25 clock to run a play, there could be some confusion. Once things get going, it may be the offenses that dominate since scoring is one thing that will probably keep the fans attention.

Seattle Dragons vs. Dc Defenders XFL Pick and Prediction

With no game odds to go on, we’ll use the pick-em approach to this game. It’s not really clear why these two teams are favored to win the title by oddsmakers, but we’ll find out soon enough. Both head coaches come in with strong offensive backgrounds, so chances are we see a high-scoring affair. With his experience, I expect Jim Zorn to have an edge here. I see the Dragons getting the early season win.
