Its hard to believe, but we are already entering Week 4 of the XFL season. Reviews and XFL picks have been good so far, especially with some of the innovative rules changes the league has implemented. This week, in an inter-divisional game, the Seattle Dragons will travel to St. Louis to take on the Battlehawks. The game will be played at 5 PM ET on Saturday, February 29th. The game is being played at The Dome at America’s Center and will be carried on Fox.
Early lines are showing St. Louis as a prohibitive favorite based not only on their 2-1 record so far, but also how well they have played in each game. Their only loss was a close 28-24 game in Week 2 against the currently undefeated Houston Roughnecks. Last week, the BattleHawks defeated the New York Guardians easily in a 29-9 victory. Each week of the season they have improved their offensive output and may just do so again this Saturday.
St. Louis relies on a strong running game led by Matt Jones and quarterback Jordan Ta’amu to keep the chains moving. In addition, Ta’amu is the 2nd ranked passer in the league thus far and is completing 75% of his passes.
Seattle has yet to have a strong overall game, and their Week 2 win was not overly impressive since it came against the winless Tampa Bay Vipers. Quarterback Brandon Silvers has just a 53.3% completion percentage and has thrown 4 interceptions through 3 games. Ja’Quan Gardner is the team’s rushing leader but has just 100 total yards on the season.
Can Seattle keep this game close?
Bettors will want to know since the early lines have St. Louis as a 12-point favorite. Playing on the road creates an additional challenge for Jim Zorn and the Dragons, so they’ll need to create some offense if they want to keep this game within single digits. A big performance from receiver Austin Proehl, who has already caught three touchdown passes on the season, could allow Seattle to keep this one close.
Is there a chance this game becomes a blowout?
Sure. St. Louis has a lot going for them so far. The game is on their home field, the offense is rolling and they are playing a team who has given up 24 or more points twice on the young season. It really comes down to how well the Dragons play defensively.
Seattle Dragons vs. St. Louis Battlehawks XFL Pick and Prediction
Everything lines up for the BattleHawks to win this game. The only question is by how much and what the final score looks like. The point total is a reasonably low 39, and all signs point to the over being the preferred play. I still believe, however, that Jim Zorn will have some tricks up his sleeve to put some points on the board. XFL pick: I believe that St. Louis wins the game, but doesn’t cover the 12-point spread. Something like 28-17.
