In making an NFL preview for this season, few teams would have been more of a surprise than the Tennessee Titans and Baltimore Ravens. Many would have made an NFL pick & prediction that the Ravens would be good, but anyone who told you they would make an NFL pick on this team being 14-2 is straight-up lying to you.
Tennessee, on the other hand, was an afterthought in the preseason and really didn’t find its stride until making the switch from Marcus Mariota to Ryan Tannehill in Week 6. Since then, the Titans are 8-4 and continue to overachieve on an unprecedented level.
Tannehill has put up a career year in 2019, with his best rating, net yards per attempt, yards per attempt, completion percentage and yards per completion.
Last week, the Titans went into Foxborough, Mass., and literally ran all over the New England Patriots. Running back Derrick Henry logged 182 yards and a score on the ground on 32 carries.
The Tennessee defense also came to play on the road, holding Tom Brady to just 209 yards passing and Sony Michel to just 61 yards on the ground. They also turned the Patriots over twice in the game, winning the turnover battle 2-1.
Baltimore has quite simply been the best team in the NFL the entire season and has all the pressure in this game. The Ravens have the league MVP in Lamar Jackson, a solid defense and a great coach. Anything less than a Super Bowl appearance would be a huge disappointment.
Ground And Pound
The Titans come into the game sporting the league’s best rusher in Henry and will face a Baltimore defense that surrenders just over 100 yards per game on the ground. Tennessee is 10-7 against the spread on the season and 6-2 in its last eight games.
The Titans have also been impressive on the road this season, going 6-3 against the spread and winners of four in a row away from home. As far as the over/under goes, Titans games have gone over in nine of their last 11 contests.
Can Jackson Become A Baltimore Legend?
Jackson is on the cusp of greatness. A historic season capped by a playoff run will cement his place in Baltimore lore. All he needs to do is continue what he’s done all season, as Baltimore was an impressive 10-5-1 against the spread on the season and an impressive 9-1 in its last 10. But, the Ravens were just 4-4 ATS at home.
Straight up, the Ravens were 7-1 both at home and on the road. The over/under was almost a dead split at 9-7 on the season and 4-4 at home. The Ravens have won 10 games in a row coming into this weekend.
Tennessee Titans vs. Baltimore Ravens NFL Pick and Prediction
Baltimore ranks in the top three in the league in both offensive and defensive points per game, and while the Titans defense is not bad, it’s difficult to imagine them stopping Jackson consistently.
Meanwhile, it is plausible to assume that Baltimore will have more success against Henry than New England did. In the end, it’s just hard to imagine the Titans winning two road playoff games in a row.
Baltimore has an average margin of victory of 19 points in its last four home games. Don’t overthink it. Baltimore to cover, play the over.
