The first week of the 2020 XFL schedule concludes as the St. Louis Battlehawks travel to Globe Life Park in Texas to take on the Dallas Renegades. We here preview XFL Game and provide XFL Pick and Prediction for the upcoming matchup between. The Renegades enter the first season of the XFL as the favorite to win the championship at +300 after assembling a well-balanced coaching staff and roster. Meanwhile the Battlehawks enter the 2020 season at the bottom of the odds to win the championship at +1,000.
After hiring former Oklahoma Sooners head coach Bob Stoops, the Renegades put together possible the best draft class of the 2020 XFL draft. A draft class that included former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Landry Jones, wide receiver Jeff Badet, running back Cameron Artis-Payne, safety Derron Smith, corner back Treston Decound and defensive tackle Nick James. The biggest question mark heading into the 2020 XFL season opener, is whether or not Jones will be healthy to start after putting together a stellar minicamp and training camp.
Meanwhile the Battlehawks are led by the Cincinnati Bengals former tight end coach Jonathan Hayes. As you look at the Battlehawks roster the biggest weakness will come from the quarterback position after failing to land a proven name or talent. The Battlehawks enter the season with Jordan Ta’Amu set to be starting quarterback while Brogan Roback and Taylor Heinicke at quarterback.
Despite the concern, Ta’Amu impressed many throughout camp with both his athleticism and arm. While time will tell the play at quarterback, the rest of the offense is well rounded with a group of guys including Christine Michael, Matt Jones, L’Damian Washington and Terrance Williams. On the defensive side of the ball, the team will be led by Kenny Robinson, Trovon Reed, Terence Garvin and Casey Sayles.
Here is an XFL Game Preview and XFL Pick and Prediction for the upcoming matchup between the St. Louis Battlehawks and the Dallas Renegades at Globe Life Park.
Starts at the Quarterback Position
Entering their week 1 matchup, all eyes will be on the health of quarterback Jones and the quarterback situation with the team. While this team is set on both sides of the field with a ton of playmakers, all of their success will start at the quarterback position something that Stoops strived on during his time with the Sooners. Despite failing to land on as the Steelers backup quarterback, Jones showed at times during his time with the team his ability to make big plays. If Jones plays, he will need to be consistent and accurate.
Play Aggressive on Defense
With concerns of the health of Landry Jones and the uncertainty of which quarterback will be under center to open the 2010 XFL season, the Battlehawks will need to start fast on the defensive side of the ball while being aggressive with their defensive play calling. One of the keys to their success in this contest will come down to their defensive line including the play of defensive tackle Casey Sayles. Along with Sayles, the team will need Jameel Garcia-Williams and Gimel President to get to the quarterback early and often.
St. Louis Battlehawks vs. Dallas Renegades XFL Pick and Prediction
When you look at these two teams on paper, the advantage leans towards the Renegades on both sides of the football as well as at the head coaching position. While concerns are with whether or not Jones plays which could determine the outcome, early reports is that the former Steeler quarterback will be ready for the XFL season opener. Despite the concerns, the Renegades big offensive line and talented group of running backs should be able to carry the load in week 1. If Jones fails to play, this contest could come down to which coaching staff calls the best game on offense and defense.
Take the Renegades at home as your XFL pick for Week 1 of the 2020 XFL schedule.
